Kingdom Counter Culture: Taking the Narrow Road (Matthew 7:13)
In 2016 we will start off a series of sermons where we will call each other to Counter Culture living. The Kingdom of God in its nature and being is a call to an alternative, counter culture, life and lifestyle. The Urban dictionary gives the following definition of counter culture: “Any group of people whose beliefs, values, styles, and attitudes differ from that of the prevailing culture.”
We believe that the teachings of the Bible are so radical that they challenge the prevailing culture, not just the Swedish culture! The implications of the Gospel challenge every culture defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts.
From January to May, we will address the following subjects during our series:
- The community in the world: The Church
- The cross and every day
- Christ, culture and social action
- Family, marriage, sex and the Gospel
- Possessions and prosperity from a Biblical view
As a starting point, we will use the New Testament scriptures that are part of our new Bible Reading Plan that will begin on January 1, 2016. The Bible Reading Plan is based off of “The Bible in a Year” and is found on the YouVersion Bible App. We also have paper copies available where you can either read throughout the Old and New Testament in one year, or you can limit your reading to the Old or New Testament.
To help process the readings and teachings, we will follow up the content within our cell groups as we provide summaries, questions and application points to help us grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
